Why Are You Unhappy? (Wei Wu Wei)

I first heard this poem read online by author David Whyte. When he reads a poem his voice tone truly adds to the dimension and my understanding of the poem. Imagine an earthy Irish brogue voice reading this:

“Why are you unhappy?
Because 99.9 per cent
Of everything you think,
And of everything you do,
Is for yourself —
And there isn’t one.”

The question “Why are you so unhappy” triggers us to put a name to any malaise we may be experiencing. In a nanosecond before finishing the first line, we’ll hear in our head a rapid firing of all our grievances that add up to “Why we are so unhappy”. BUT! – our excuses and reasons are short lived. Author Wei Wu Wei, takes the juice of justification and tells us the truth. We don’t exist. We don’t have a self that can be made happy. In the broad scheme of the universe or the end goal of enlightenment, we discover that we are nothing or no thing. We are part of the vast universe of emptiness from which all things arise. Wrap your mind around that! Then know that we do exist in relation to each other – part of the vast interconnection of the grid of humanity. It may change your orientation to having status, stuff or having things for yourself… as your motivation for what makes you happy.

When you realize that everything we think and do is for everyone, we suddenly lose an orientation toward choice and instead embody an obligation to serve the whole. In each present moment, we ask “What is my purpose here for the highest and best for everyone?”  “How are my choices benefiting me and everyone else?”   “What do I appreciate about myself and everyone here?”

The poem is from a classic book of poetry and essays written by an anonymous author who went by the name of Wei Wu Wei. Google his name for a very interesting story. He wrote a number of books from 1958 to 1974. ‘Why are you so unhappy’ is from the book “Ask the Awakened – The Negative Way”, first published in 1963.

A New Year – A New You

Reinventing ourselves comes from within. It does help to have a planetary shift similar the one we had on the winter solstice December 21, 2012 which coincided with the end of the Mayan calendar. 2018 was all about building and laying down a new foundation. The upcoming planetary shift in 2019 is all about making things tangible and material, so if you have a goal or dream, this will be the year to start making steps to transform your dream into reality.

What I found necessary was to reclaim the parts of myself that I had lost, given away, or given up on. I suggest you do the same. The Fusion Modality in the Resonance Repatterning® method retrieves this lost quality. It will free you to be more authentically who YOU are out in the world.

In a workshop called, Owning My Purpose, one of the exercises we did was to inquire about what we did, or how we survived our family dynamics growing up. One of the things I discovered that I did to survive, to be acceptable, and to get my needs met was to find out what the rules are and follow them. I then saw that even to this day, I find out what the rules are and live within the parameters of them, even if I do not agree with them, or even if have to settle. Growing up, I became the good girl, nice and pleasing. I found out what others needed and did whatever it took to make them happy–harmony at all cost!

The next exercise in this workshop was to distinguished what qualities we left behind to survive, like our uniqueness, our creativity, our curiosity, adventure, etc. I discovered that I left behind, my inner desires, my true authentic playful nature, my full self-expression, my dignity, and most importantly my values.

We then talked about what we are passionate about, like making a difference, nature, animals, helping adopted people find their biological parents, etc. I discovered I have many passions! The four I spoke about were my passion to free people from their past and move forward to fulfill their dream; to take risks, be adventurous and playful; to be in an environment where there are wide-open spaces; and to be free to be myself.

From there, in the quietness of my inner sanctuary I created and later declared and claimed my purpose. I stood up in front of the whole group — and on camera to boot — owned my purpose. My purpose is to inspire and empower others’ greatness to live extraordinary lives! What I realized is that I am already doing that. Energy surged throughout my whole being and a rush of emotion filled my eyes. It was total validation of what I have been all about for many years.

The group was then asked to pick a project to fulfill within six months that would allow us to tangibly experience our purpose and move us into unhesitating action. I could not imagine taking on yet another project. So, I chose one I had yet to complete: publishing my first book, What Would Love Do Right Now? A Guide to Living an Extraordinary Life. I created a structure to fulfill my goal with support from those who love and care about me. The paperback was published December 2017 by my own company which you can visit at www.ExtraordinaryOutcomesPublishing.com. The eBook came out in May of 2018 and got to #1 on Amazon the first day. It was exciting!

Bringing ourselves back to life

Most of us didn’t have our essential needs met as children and life often felt threatening. When we felt unwelcome, unloved, unheard or unseen, and we were unable to express this, we shut down, stopped breathing or moving freely. In the Resonance Repatterning process, the energy constriction release is like a beautiful piece of ritual theatre, where our younger selves can experience a sense of safety and nurturing. We are supported to breathe into whatever we are feeling, stay embodied, free the flow of our life energy and embrace our innocence. We receive the update that we are not alone anymore, that we now have the support we need and are encouraged to experience the joy of being our true selves, of being natural, free of the fear of rejection or the illusion of separation. This is self love and acceptance.

We all have the same core needs. Many of our problems come from the belief we are alone, disconnected, and our pain is unique to us. We hide in shame and reach for unfulfilling substitutes. We can choose to break this cycle and free ourselves from our prisons of isolation. From my own experience, nothing is worse than the scenarios my fearful mind conjures up. Yet when I have risked intimacy, revealing the aspects of myself I felt most ashamed of, it has often been surprisingly enjoyable.

Rather than repeating our stories, or going through the motions in our relationships, we can create lasting transformation and move beyond blaming and complaining, beyond the old human story of victim, persecutor and rescuer. We can step into the awareness of our interconnection and the freedom of taking responsibility for every choice we make. We can find out what we are unconsciously committed to, and make the necessary changes. These tiny shifts in perspective ripple out and affect the whole.

Life is precious and we matter. When we can relax into being held, dare to breathe and feel whatever arises, let our bodies move and our voices sound, we reclaim our aliveness.

Resonance Repatterning is not the only way to do this, of course, however, it is a powerful, gentle, elegant, creative and playful way.

My Tribute to HR/RR— My Poem- I AM Going, Going, Going…….

 

I wrote this poem shortly after I’d completed one of my HR (Holographic Repatterning, renamed Resonance Repatterning in the 2000s) self-sessions in my home, in late 1999.

It was a moment of a higher level of well-being, vitality, feeling energised, happy, excited, with positive thoughts, that all led me, then and there, to express into words the feelings of my first and only poem so far. I saved the poem and took it out recently.

RR (Resonance Repatterning) points clearly on to our actual work in the process of identifying and transforming our resonance with the negative into the positive. We all tend to resonate with our Problems and do not resonate with our Positive Intentions. Fortunately, we have Resonance Repaterning, an extraordinary  process System, that allow us to transform our negative life patterns into positive ones and so achieve the positive life changes that we want. Resonance Repaterning can help us manifest our well-being, strengths, vitality, our talents (known and unknown), our creativity, and it inspires us for good in ourselves and others.

At the time when I wrote this poem, I was already a                                                    Certified HR practitioner for several years and had experienced many successful self-sessions, and had given and received sessions with others including my colleagues and my clients.  I have continued over the years until the current time doing successful Resonance Repatterning  sessions, as a Certified Resonance Repatterning Practitioner, on myself and others and seen many positive changes for all.

I feel that my creativity to write my Poem was inspired by HR/RR, and feel that I may be surprised to have similar RR inspired creativity for another poem, other writings, or elsewhere in my life.

I feel that anyone who is interested to inspire or promote any of their creativity could benefit from doing RR.

Facing the fear of being visible

Earlier this year I was feeling quite frustrated that Resonance Repatterning  wasn’t more valued in the world, sad that so many people could benefit from it and that it was still largely unknown. I decided to stop complaining and instead, see what I could do to change the situation and as ever, this change began within.

I had received an email from the organisers of the Boom Festival in Portugal, which is only offered every two years. I’ve been wanting to go for over a decade and I almost procrastinated again, telling myself I wasn’t good enough yet. Instead, I applied to offer RR there, in the Being Fields, and was overjoyed to be enthusiastically welcomed and accepted.

I leapt at the chance to attend Liz Tobin’s brilliant Stepping into the Spotlight walking our talk event in January. Soon afterwards a friend recommended a free 30 day FB event called Ignite Video Challenge. We were encouraged to record short first take videos and be part of a supportive group, learning skills and giving each other feedback. Another friend had recommended a way to make my own website about a year earlier and once I gave it my full attention, I was able to create one I was delighted with within a couple of hours. It was as easy to use as she’d said. I followed through on my intention to begin offering world peace hologram events, which I’d been wanting to do for years and love, even though I’m far from perfect. I attended Carolyn Winter’s excellent techie tips training in April and I’ve created an online course as a result.

These are all tiny steps towards making Resonance Repatterning more visible and accessible to as many people as possible and it feels so good to have made a solid start. I could easily have continued hiding in fear and feeling helpless about how to share Resonance Repatterning more widely.

I’ve used Resonance Repatterning on myself throughout, shared sessions with peers and felt supported every step of the way. The original intention I came into resonance with was to be confidently making videos, sharing what I love, for the joy of it, unattached to outcomes and feeling free. I’m amazed how quickly this has become my experience. I’m freshly inspired by the power of Resonance Repatterning and deeply appreciative of the transformation it makes possible. I love this elegant body of work with all my heart. Thank you!

Living a Purpose Filled Life

One of the main concerns I’ve heard during my twenty five years of working with clients and especially when I had the privilege of talking with elderly people at the end of their life, was whether or not they fulfilled their life’s purpose.

I would ask them what they thought their purpose was. I reminded them that not everyone was going to be an Oprah Winfrey, Deepak Chopra, or Chloe Faith Wordsworth-developer of Resonance Repatterning®, and that their purpose was very unique to them. They did not have to be famous or up on stage, have books and CD’s out, be wealthy, married, or whatever they thought and believed might be a worthy purpose.

I would have them do what I call a life review. Starting in childhood, I would have them name all their accomplishments as well the qualities they embraced as they influenced all the people in their lives. From this inquiry, they would discover on their own, the theme, consistent quality, or way of being that really made a difference for them and the people who they positively affected both personally and professionally. Some of them commented that they were loving, patient, generous, understanding, compassionate, and/or kind-hearted. Others said, “I was a good mother–helpful and supportive.” or “I was a good father–generous and a good provider.” As you can imagine, the list went on and on. I then helped them see that what they accomplished in their lives and the qualities they exuded was their life purpose and that it was enough. Being a loving mother was enough. Being a good provider was enough. Taking a stand for peace and being peaceful was enough. Being light-hearted, humorous, and optimistic was enough! Knowing this opened their hearts, and a sense of peace and calm came over them.  It actually brought them to tears–tears of knowing that they indeed did fulfill their purpose and lived a purpose-filled life!

I would not recommend waiting until the end of your precious life to discover your life‘s purpose. Sit down when you have uninterrupted time. Light a candle if you wish. Fill the room with your favorite scent. Close your eyes, take some slow deep breaths and do your own life review. Start when you were a child. What qualities or attributes did you radiate back then? Then continue by listing your accomplishments as an adult and use them to determine the qualities you’ve used to make a difference in those around you. You will be amazed at what you discover. Keep breathing. Keep writing. You will see a theme emerge. Now, go into the quiet of your inner essence and allow yourself to claim your life’s purpose. You may even experience that you are already living a purpose-filled life!

The power of story telling for healing….

I have sweet memories of reading to my child throughout his younger years. He had his favorite book “Where the Wild Things Are”. It was his number one pick and I had to read it exactly the same way each night. If I was tired and tried to “edit” the text he called me out every time. Why do children get so attached to a story? Why do we adults read and re-read our favorite stories over the years? Because our imagination is activated. Books inspire us and give us hope for a more ideal relationship or family. We long for a happy ending. Life is full of incomplete moments. Our childhoods were filled with unfinished events that we continue to recreate in our adult life in the attempt to get that happy ending.

As practitioners we often pull up a brief story to make a point for our clients to digest. Sometimes from our own life experience. It creates a bond with our client to realize we are all on our journey in life.

It’s important to collect stories so you can pull out the appropriate lesson or ideal. When you tell a story it relaxes your client. Their intuitive, imaginative right brain takes over for that moment and they are no longer thinking. This slows down their brainwaves and allows for deeper healing and integration of the patterns or themes you are working on together. They are experiencing the unfolding of the story and not consciously tracking the “lesson”. This often leads to a “light bulb” moment of deep awareness.

I always associate the power of storytelling with Dr. Wayne Dyer. He was such an inspiring teacher, author and brilliant story teller. One of his PBS specials was about the power of storytelling. He was speaking specifically about how to raise brilliant children. He said if you want smart children read to them. If you want brilliant children read to them even more; make up stories to share with them and encourage them to create their own stories.

History has been shared through myths and stories throughout time. A vehicle to share what was going on; teaching us lessons; inspiring us to reach beyond our normal routine and to show us a better way to live.

Stories activate our symbolic, creative, intuitive, imaginative right cerebral hemisphere. This is why we create stories out of everything that happens to us & why we tell family members the story of what we have done that day. We all want to tell our story and we want our story to be heard.
