Pinterest – Pinterest is a place where a picture speaks a thousand words. It has been gaining a lot of buzz over the last six months. Open an account and set up your profile to start. Then follow others whose ‘Pins” you enjoy and start pinning your own pictures as well. Once you are familiar with how Pinterest works, you can use it creatively in many ways for promotion. For example, if you are promoting a nutrition program, share Pins on a board you create of healthy food choices. You become known as the ‘go to person’ with that kind of information.
Google Plus Hang Outs – Google Plus is Google’s answer to Facebook. Like Facebook, don’t plan your entire business there, but it is a great place to attract new interest to your main web presence. What can you do here?
- Set up your profile page (very very highly recommended).
- Share all kinds of information related to your business from lifestyle newspaper articles to the blog posts of others. Share what is new and interesting to you or what you would repattern next.
- Share your pictures – digital cameras made it all happen. You can take a picture of your morning walk, a sunrise or sunset. Couple it with an affirmation or a quote to inspire your clients.
- HOST A HANG OUT! – this is where you can have a video conference with up to nine others who are also on G+–the Dali Lama himself used this technology to connect with a world audience when he could not leave the country to attend Desmond Tutu’s birthday. He connected with Desmond Tutu and his worldwide audience in one hang out. It was precious!
Email or Phone in your blog posts. – If you have a WordPress.com blog, there are some very cool features to make regular blogging quick and easy. You may enable a setting that generates a custom email address (to send things to) and a custom phone number with pin. These are set up at each blog where you participate or own–including this one if you are a member! Login to your WordPress.com blog and select Dashboard/MyBlogs, and you will see a list of all the blogs where you are a member. Select the one where you would like a phone number or email and activate those options on the row for that blog. Save the information in a good place!
Once activated, send your post via an email sent to your custom email address, and it will automatically post to your blog.
Use the phone feature (oh so cool) and a post will get published within a few minutes with no subject line (alter this later) and only an audio icon in the post. Press the icon and your recordings will play.
Write Your Ebook(s) – I am still working away on this one but have to share what I have learned so far. You may have noticed how Ebooks have proliferated on the internet. They present a much easier way to take in content that in the old paradigm was the equivalent of an essay or an actual book. There are many companies out there providing courses on how to write your Ebook and get it distributed. However, if you have a blog and write regular articles that are grouped in a CATEGORY (each blog post may be assigned to a category you create) that content can be easily imported to a service that will convert it into an Ebook. The one I have played with the most is called http://www.FastPencil.com. It provides you with the ability to do lots of things–create a book from scratch, start with your word document version that you upload or import your blog content or blog post category of content!!!! From there you may edit, invite others to collaborate and edit, add pictures or more. The final product of digital files may be purchased for $9.95 and what you have is your content packaged in Ebook style for ease of access and that you can use as a download online. They also will support you in taking your book the distance and have it published and distributed online at Amazon for a fraction of what it used to cost to self-publish a book. Very Very Cool!
YouTube Video’s– Sure you can spend thousands of dollars to make a perfect video but chances are your business does not have that type of budget. Professional marketers themselves are using fast simple ways to get video online. One of the quickest ways is to use YouTube.com and your webcam. Create messages for your clients that accompany group proxy notes. Put a welcome message on your website. Instead of a long page of copy and explanation try making a video instead. Visit
and create your account, complete your profile, and fill out your account settings. Look for the button that says UPLOAD and press the web cam feature to begin your video recording. Once you save it, you can then copy and paste the code they nicely provide onto any post or page at your blog or social media platform.
I have only scratched the surface of the tech tools available. Taking my own advice, each one could be a blog post for the future. Hopefully this is enough to get you started.
Have you used any of these tools for your business? Which ones do you recommend?
